The Piqua Cornerstone Commerce Park that Piqua Materials is creating will be 800 acres and located near our current quarry, across the river and not close to very many houses. About 200 acres, will be a quarry, but approximately 600 acres will have a new, state-of-the-art 4.6 million square foot commerce park. That’s huge–enough to create jobs for about 2,200 people.
Some in our community have forgotten how important it is to be a pro-job, pro-business community in order to build a strong future for all of us. Mike Sherry and Scott Reardon are suing the City of Piqua -- not our company, but our city -- to try to block the new quarry from opening. They claim the city made all sorts of mistakes when it said it was ok for the quarry to open. Well, our current quarry is right across the street from where the new one will be and it is going fine. What exactly did the city get wrong?
Unless you were born rich, you don’t have the luxury of taking anything for granted. We can’t take Piqua’s future for granted, and we sure can’t take our jobs or economy for granted. We’ve got to work hard to make sure good jobs stay in Piqua and come to Piqua. That means being welcoming to every new job we can get. It’s important that we tell everyone: Piqua Digs Jobs!
